My holiday wardrobe edit!

This post contains affiliate links and gifted items.

Sorry I've been AWOL from the blog for a few days. I've limped through the first week of half term, solo parenting as the DH has been away whilst trying to get on top of my holiday prep going and I've been at work for the past two days.....this week away is much needed I tell you!

I have to say it's been a bit of a challenge to pack this time. We usually take this holiday in May and we've had a taste of summer by then so some clothes purchases have already been made. This time I'm relying very heavily on some past season purchases.......thankfully there are Zara and Mango store s where we are going so there will be plenty of opportunity to bolster my holiday wardrobe whilst I am there!

I'll kick off the post with my travelling outfit. Our flight is at 6 in the morning so due to the 4am start I need something I can throw on and go. This is where my new favourite dress comes into it's own. The New Look black jersey hanky hem dress is really comfy so perfect for a 4 hour flight. I'll only be taking one jacket, a denim jacket as it's the most versatile style for everything else in my suitcase. On my feet will be an ancient pair of Converse (at least 15 years old!) that I'm taking as we plan to do a lot of walking. Last time we were in Lanzarote a lovely couple told us about the coastal path between Puerto Del Carmen and Puerto Calero so we walk it every day. As for hand luggage, I'd normally take a straw basket but since I normally get lumbered with hauling everything down to the pool.....I've gone oversize and I'm taking my Stella McCartney tote that I picked up at a Kilver Court sample sale last year.

Rockin' a frock for #sundaybeststyle

Another Sunday well spent in the MyFashionable40s household. We've been to a Christening.....invited by our gorgeous neighbours. It's been amazing to get to know some of the people we say hello up and down the street a little bit better. Feeling privileged to live in such a lovely community. Naturally I seized the opportunity to dress up......I knew this Studio by Preen dress from Debenhams would be perfect!

Feel uplifted!

This post contains affiliate links.

I spent a wonderful day at Bristol Fashion Week Festival talking about all things body positivity an self confidence at The Mall Cribbs Causeway yesterday. It's given me perspective.....a fresh outlook and lots of ideas! Lots of information to process before I share some of these ideas with you. If you are in the South West do try and get along to it, there are still tickets..... it's on everyday until Sunday. As well as the conversations with Caryn Franklin (who is just fabulous!) there is a catwalk show and styling sessions on the runway. Outside the main auditorium there are styling and beauty pods and a ticket entitles you to experience all that is on offer! What did I wear? John Lewis at The Mall gifted me a stunning dress from their own John Lewis collection as well as accessories. The dress was a dream to wear.......I just hope that an occasion pops up so that I get to wear it again soon!

clothes my husband hates!

Yep, the boiler suit is right up there. When I put this on this morning I did get a quip about changing his exhaust....ha ha! Anyway I think with the boiler suit it is a case of finding the right one as I kissed a couple of frogs until good old New Look has come up trumps again! It's lyocell fabric, so quite fluid material which pleases me greatly as it's just more flattering in my eyes. There is no fiddling with it. It has pockets, a drawstring waist tie and a neat little cuffed hem which I find easier than a turn-up.

Sundays are for sparkles...and what's new in this week!

This post contains affiliate links.

Sunday is by far my favourite day of the week. It deserves a few sparkles doesn't it! I have had a super one this week as I was invited to sample the delights of a Sunday roast at The Botanist that has just opened in Bath. The food was superb, the venue is spectacular and the service was impeccable....the whole experience totally exceeded expectations. If you are visiting Bath make sure it's on your to-do list! I saw a few familiar faces SarahFromBath, L.i.p_Kate and StyleoPhile_uk we all said hi! It would have been rude not to break out a new purchase for the occasion wouldn't it!

This is a take me anywhere dress if ever there was one! It's a real wardrobe hero. I may have to buy a spare to hoard as I love it so much. It looks way more expensive than it's £17.99 price tag (it strikes me that it has a whiff of Cos about it) and it's a dream to wear. I have to thank my lovely mate Sue for finding it.....she knows my style better than I do! ;0)

It's been a while since my last weekly confession!

This post contains affiliate links.
Is this just me or does anyone else seem to have a little style wobble whilst we are amidst the lengthy seasonal crossover weather? It's like I don't know where to start with the new season. I made one or 2 spring purchases just before I started the personal styling course and when I learnt about my 'natural' style personality suddenly everything just clicked into place. I'm on a roll now. I feel like I'm nailing my style personality. I wore these Veja's on the first day of the course and they are fast becoming the linchpin of my outfits.....they are game changers I tell you!

A double....or actually even a triple entendre for you today. Some of you may have seen already that I have been training on a personal styling course this week with The image Consulting Company. The majority of the time I've been in a classroom environment so I have worn things that have been comfortable. I completed the 3 elements of the course I signed up for this afternoon. Comfort zone has taken on a whole new meaning for me now that I understand my style personality.

Life won't sparkle unless you do!

{AD} contains affiliate links and gifted items.

Bringing you a bit of everyday glamour cos let's face it life won't sparkle unless you do! Life is too short not to wear what you love.......even if the weather isn't playing ball. I've been struggling a bit this week as the hubby has been away for work (thankfully he is coming home early and is back tonight!) and although my 12 year old daughter is very resourceful and independent I've been failing miserably at keeping all the plates spinning! I've been pretty housebound thanks to being chief dog walker.....we have a high maintenance hound who needs a lot of exercise and he's still young so doesn't like to be left home alone for too long. The majority of the day has been spent in dog-walking gear but I did pop out for a quick coffee at a friends this afternoon and so naturally I made the most of the opportunity......and my friend's central heating! I've been itching to wear this skirt....and the sweatshirt, love them together! This ensemble certainly brought a smile to my face! :0)

my love for the midi skirt!

{AD} Affiliate links and gifted items.

I've devoted a lot of words to how much I love a midi skirt lately. I'm yet to lose a couple pounds gained over the festive period and so wearing something with a partially elasticated waistband is bringing me joy on a daily basis! ;0) I love the fact that with separates you can create many different looks which is why the humble skirt has become such a wardrobe staple for me.

A black pleated skirt is a must have for any wardrobe. It's so versatile. The perfect staple to dress up or down. You know I'm favouring with a sweatshirt and trainers.......exactly as I'm wearing it today.

Apart from my outfit......I've done a little something worthwhile today by getting behind a campaign for a lovely charity! Swindon Outlet supports Brighter Futures Handbag Amnesty. The outlet provide shop space for the charity to resell donated handbags. All proceeds go to Brighter Futures who fundraise to give exceptional levels of care (be that new equipment or making the hospital environment nicer for patients) at Swindon's Great Western Hospital. The shop is run by volunteers who have double the amount of bags to sell this time.....over 800!! They have some luggage, purses and scarves as well to sell. Prices start at £3....there are some really excellent bargains. I spotted lots of brands such as Lacoste, Kipling and Cath Kidston to name but a few! I bought a little leopard crossbody bag for my daughter who was distraught she couldn't come with me this time because of school!

keeping myself in check!

Currently discovering my love of a good blazer. After bagging the Warehouse/Lucy Williams collaboration on eBay a few weeks ago when this popped up in Warehouse's 'new in' section I knew I had to make it mine! It will bring together many pieces in my wardrobe.......justification done!

Curiosity got the better of me this morning. I got up 5am to be at The Mall for their launch of the M&S Holly Willoughby Must Haves. This is not an #AD. I was not paid to attend, nor was I gifted anything. I was offered a discount but as I have received vouchers for Sparks 20% off this weekend I decided to wait and have a think about what my wardrobe really needs......if anything. I'm not going to review the whole lot. Just my 2 favourites. Starting with this denim shirt. I just bought a denim shirt a few weeks back (M.i.h from Kilver Court - blogged here). I'm going to be totally honest here and say that a denim shirt is something I find tricky to style. After pairing it with black denim jeans (straight or skinny) the only other way I recall wearing a J Crew one I've had for years is with a black faux leather pencil skirt. That said I absolutely love the western vibe going on with this one......the puffy sleeves being a divine little feature.

I resisted temptation on these too! They are gorgeous buttery soft leather in an off-white colour, great height heel for me. If I hadn't purchased these New Look bargains last week I may have caved and bought these.

So although my nosiness got the better of me.......my purse is sighing with relief! I've posted a couple more Stories of the things I tried on in M&S.....you can see here! I did have a giggle with my pal Gail Painter and it was lovely to catch up with a few of my fellow Bristol bloggers!

I'll be back tomorrow with my #ootd

This is a new concept for me but I was inspired to try this by celebrity stylist Gayle Rinkoff sporting something similar on Instagram.
