A spot of swindon outlet shopping!

For those of my readers who live along the M4 corridor.........this post is for you! I've been going to the McArthur Glen Swindon outlet since it opened 21 years ago. When I originally started to visit the outlet I would be heading straight to the huge Gap outlet, my mum has always loved it for the Jaeger and Hobbs stores and the DH has always made regular trips on his travels to fill his boots with Ralph Lauren. In the past few years it has increased in size and had a bit of a facelift......consequently it has attracted some really great brands that are new to the Swindon outlet. When I visited a couple of weeks back it reminded me of what a great place it is to shop........so it is now firmly back on my radar! With over a 100 stores it's meant that I've already been back this weekend and am planning another trip in a couple of weeks as they have a couple of new stores opening!

Let me start by giving you a bit of a virtual tour. One of the great things about Swindon is that it is entirely covered over.....meaning it's a great place to go during the cold and rainy weather. Of course it's perfect during the scorchio weather too.....when the sun is shining it's a lovely place to hang out as it literally lights up!

Another great reason to visit is that there is a play area, also partially covered. Starbucks is strategically placed to leave your hubby with a newspaper whilst the kids play whilst you to get down to the serious business of shopping! Some weekends they have events on for the children.....the weekend I visited they had a bubbles workshop. You can check out what's going on here

You can really make a day of it as there are some great eateries as well as coffee stops such as Soho Coffee and Costa. They have a Carluccio's, Wagmama's, Giraffe and Pizza Express. There is lots more choice in the food court. I was treated to a Patisserie Valerie Fragipani tart as it was my birthday....it was delicious!

Moving on to the all important shopping. What brands can you expect to find at Swindon outlet? Here's a taster......there is literally something for everyone!

Converse is a new and welcome addition

Dune London has also recently arrived!

M&S has moved in to a new and larger unit so they have a great selection of clothing and homeware!

Women's navy cashmere blend coat M&S outlet price £59.50!

There is a huge John Lewis home outlet with ex-dispaly furniture.....well worth a visit. Also a large Next clearance store.

So what did we buy? Well, we headed straight to Ralph Lauren to pick up something for dad first.

The tweens love their branded stuff so Gracie was in heaven because as well as having an Adidas and Puma she was delighted to pick up this little jacket in Nike. Mum brownie points for spotting this one! ;0)

I was on a mission to find the Converse outlet where I managed to bag these.....

Next up for me was a trip to the Levis store where I tossed up between to jackets

I bagged the blue denim!

And finally I had a good old try on in Jigsaw.......where I would have happily purchased all of the following.......

Jigsaw velvet sweater

Jigsaw stripe rollback sweater

Jigsaw embroidery anglaise blouse

Stripe turtle neck sweater

What did actually come home with me is this black silk shirt.

This is just a tip of the iceberg as far as how many retailers are at the outlet. The full directory of stores is here. It's worth pointing out here that we also received an extra 10% off of our purchases as I signed up to receive the newsletter which means you get a little privilege card on your birthday! 'Twas indeed a lovely way to spend my special day! Sign up for the newsletter here

As I mentioned I've been back since.....the DH's birthday is coming up next so we went back for yet more Ralph Lauren. Of course I didn't come away empty handed either! Another visit to the Converse shop yielded another pair of trainers (there are 2 more pairs I intend to sneak back and purchase without the husband present!).

I will be back to the Swindon outlet at the beginning November. They have a late night shopping event on the 1st when the centre will be open until 10pm. The grand opening of White Stuff & Abbott Lyon will be taking place that day! There is also a Festive Fashion Event taking place on the evening of Thursday 15th November where my lovely friend Kate Evans will be doing a presentation in Carluccio's from 7.30 - 9.30pm. You can buy your tickets here. I will definitely be going along to support Kate!

So, I hope I've given you enough reasons to want to visit Swindon Outlet. It's definitely worth a trip.....it's my current favourite shopping destination......as you know I love a bargain and to bag an investment purchase for a little less!

If you have any questions about the outlet please leave me a comment......or perhaps if you've visited recently tell me your favourite things about shopping here!

I will be back soon with a list of my top ten items that have stood the test of time......that could be the start of a shopping list for things you can buy for less at an outlet! ;0)

This post was written in collaboration with Swindon Outlet who kindly gifted me some vouchers to spend during my first visit.

  1. Good to see the outlet is thriving with lots of good brands. I used to live in Swindon a few years ago. The last time I went there it was a bit tired with lots of empty shops. Quite the reverse now!
