new *kick*s

The one item you can rely on to be a wardrobe transformer during the Winter- Spring transition is footwear. They are always the game-changers for me. Shoes can always be relied upon to elevate any outfit I reckon. In my case it's a splash of colour that's breathing a bit of new life into the black and grey uniform I seem to be favouring at the moment. I bagged a bargain pair of red pointy flats from M&S a few weeks back that I adore with my dungarees. This week I have had my head turned by a softer ballet-pump in red.....the perfect shaped shoe to go with my new Gap cropped jeans, though they will also be fab with these slouchy H&M grey trews.....and my Zara khaki army trews (similar here). I could go on but I'll spare you as I have a feeling these may not be off my feet! Yup....I'm officially obsessed!

A chap manning the fitting room in Topshop had these on (yes....you did read that right, a he) and he assured me they were like wearing slippers.....and by gosh he was right! They are supersoft and so comfy to wear......I will be living in them!

Now......whilst I was in Toppers, Oxford Circus scooping the Kick's up I literally had to tear myself away from these beauties too!

I do have a soft spot for loafers, I wore my white Office Dapper's to death last Summer so I could well end up placing a cheeky order for these Karter which are a slightly more square-toed than the Dapper's.

Now I've braved a bit of red I'm checking out other colours. I would love to get a bit more colour into my wardrobe and when the lovely Teeclutter shared these on Instagram I thought this shade would be great with the navy pieces I appear to be accruing at the moment.

The flats are definitely ruling my tran-seasonal wardrobe this Spring. I am ready for a change from boots and my trusty trainers and I think all of the above will be brilliant for ringing in the Spring changeover. I am all over anything pump-like as though I haven't worn these yet from M&S, I adore them. My Urban Outfitter Jane's strappy ballet flats (alternative here) are also itching to be worn as are these New Look leopard print flats. I think I'm fully stocked in the footwear department for the time being.

What's your transitional choice of footwear? I would love to hear!

A couple of outfits to share....the ankles have been out!

desperately seeking an alternative to my skinnies!

I keep reading everywhere that the skinny jean is dead. I must admit that I'm to craving to experiment with something other than my beloved skinnies at the moment. After reading this fab post I've been inspired to do a bit of research, especially as it feels we are just about to turn a corner weather-wise (well.....once Doris is out of the way!). I picked up a couple of Levi's CT 501's in the sale in January (back here) and this past week I've been busy checking out other options. This pic inspired me to look for something black and cropped!

Carolina is my new style crush! Love this look. I think these are trousers rather than jeans but this image certainly got the ball rolling towards getting me out of my drainpipes and into some different styles of denim. I'm usually quite faithful to good old Toppers when it comes to jeans, Zara are pretty good too. When it comes to offering more variety of styles though, Gap is a pretty good port of call. They have such a good range of different shapes and washes, I can usually find exactly what I'm looking for.

These didn't disappoint......as soon as these were out of the packet they were on! I love them! They are more of a washed black than a true black and my usual 28" waist is spot on size-wise. Now I know you can't see them in detail in this shot.....but you get the gist!

As per usual there was a discount code at Gap (DOUBLEGAP gets you 30% off, ends tonight though! A further 5% discount on top if you have their app) so I took advantage and ordered these to too!

They come in a darker wash as well.

The jury is still out on this cut for me.........I'd love to hear your opinions!

I think they make me look a bit short and dumpy in this photo so I'm still umm-ing and ahh-ing over them. If I return them now I'll no doubt be kicking myself in a couple of months time when they will look fab with a pretty white top and some strappy flat tan sandals. I am quite smitten with wider leg for a change though.....what do you think ladies?

These are also on my radar at the moment. I personally the styling here is pretty hideous.....the black accessories are a bit heavy I think but I'm loving the peg shape of these jeans so I think they are definitely worth investigating!

Next on my list to research is white jeans. I think my days of wearing white skinnies could be over! I'm on the hunt for a boyfriend, mom or straight white jean. I'll keep you posted on my findings.

What's your favourite style of jeans? Are you ready to step away from skinny jeans this season? Please do share!

Thoroughly bored with Winter clothes now.....keeping everything crossed for a bit more ankle-baring weather. Looking forward to ditching coats in favour of jackets and lighter layers too!

Until next time!

A quick credit where it's due for my lovely friend Sue for the heads up on the New Look blouse! Mwah Sue.....it's winner! xx

for those rare occasions!

It doesn't happen very often but I do love the opportunity to get my gladrags on! Most places have a fairly relaxed dress code these days so wearing a dress can leave you feeling like you've overdone it. As I like to get the most out of my clothes, separates are usually the way to go for me.....dual purpose pieces are always wardrobe winners! Last week we popped down to Devon for a couple of days and as I was whisked away straight from work, trying to keep the packing light I based my first evening outfit around the foundations of what I wore to work that day....a Merino crew neck sweater. By day I styled it with some wide M&S trousers and tan Brogues. When we arrived at our hotel there was only time for a quick change to head down to dinner.....and so I pulled on a pleated metallic skirt and a pair of heels and voila........

Another wardrobe winner, great for dressing up or down is a jumpsuit. In recent weeks I've been stalking this Mango one on their website. I umm-ed and ahh-ed over it for a couple of months, so when I noticed it had gone down to £19.99 I finally decided to take the plunge only to find it was sold out in my size. Anyway, luckily I signed up to be notified if it came back into stock and thankfully it did! I went with flat leopard print flats for evening but it will be coming out to play with paired with Converse in the coming weeks!

Thinking we were staying a bit longer than usual I took four evening outfits. As it turned out we had to cut the trip short so only three were needed. It was up to the Hubs and DD to decide between the two! The black skinnies won hands down for the DH so I went with this look.

I did manage to get a snap of the other outfit choice so there is one last show and tell. I packed a LBD......'cos you never know! This H&M dress has been a  fab dual-purpose number as I have worn out with ankle boots and a boyfriend cardy for a low-key family meal at Carluccio's. I honestly felt a little overdressed in this with the heels for where we were.

Now, I appreciate these outfits aren't terribly exciting but they are all classics that will come out again and again. I don't want to throw a lot of money on items that are going to sit in my wardrobe unworn and unloved, instead I prefer to make more sensible purchases that suit all areas of my lifestyle. I hope they give you a few ideas of how to mix'n'match items you may already have......we all have those moments when we peer in our wardrobes and our hearts plummet as we think we have nothing to wear!

I'll be back soon.....back in my comfort zone of more casual gear!

16 February 2017

taking advantage of the M&S 20% off!

It's half term and we are away from home for a few days enjoying a bit of much needed R&R! I have plenty of time to lounge about and peruse the M&S website to take full advantage of their current 20% off discount.....use code FB6F34 which is valid from February 16th -20th. I've already clicked the button on this here from my last post and these lovelies have been snapped up too!

M&S navy & white pumps
I have gone a bit wild in the virtual skincare & haircare aisles stocking up on a few of my favourite brands.....it would be rude not to with 20% off wouldn't it?!

jumping on *that blouse* bandwagon

I'm under the Insta influence.....again. You'll have no doubt spotted this gorgeous M&S blouse on some very well known bloggers and Instagrammers. I generally try to resist being tempted by the more highly publicised heroes of the season. However, I'll then go and spot it on someone styling it perfectly and looking tres cool in it, then the fashion-y cogs in my head start whirring and suddenly I find myself desperately in *need* of the said item. The grim weather has also got a part to play in my preoccupation with this top.....I am so over being cold, I want to shed some layers. I am craving some Spring-like clothing. Anyway thanks to the super stylish Jane as this little number is now hanging in my closet just begging to be worn!

It's so pretty isn't it! I had planned to do a little trying on session to show you how I would wear this but I'm going down with a cold and so I'm currently nursing a hot toddy. I do however have a fitting room selfie to share.

                                                                   M&S Indigo Blouse

I plan to style this with some customised self-cropped Gap real straight jeans, an army style shackett and some flat pumps....hopefully in the coming weeks. I reckon it will also look fab with some khaki cargo trews or a denim skirt later on!

This is my first ever M&S Indigo purchase so I've had a quick peruse of the rest of the range!

I've previously established (here) that I'm happily inviting a little more red to reside in my wardrobe. So a couple more tops from this range have caught my eye!

Love this peasant-style patterned one too!

Totally tempted by this kimono-style jacket. There is definitely a hole in my wardrobe for this style of jacket/kimono/blouse.....whatever you wish to call it!

One final must-have! I have some biker jeans from Zara that are a couple of years old that have become my go-to bottoms this A/W. I am definitely going to be investigating these instore!

Have you been tempted by the Insta-famous Indigo blouse? Or anything in the M&S Indigo range for that matter?!

A quick outfit round-up from the past few days.....anyone else feel like they are running out of cold weather options?

a spot of outlet shopping.....and some purchase updates!

Every once in awhile I get the urge to pop to my local outlet for a spot of shopping. My mum loves a trip to Clarks Village which is our most local, so off we went last Saturday. Glad I had my mum along on this trip as she spotted this gorgeous boho top in French Connection. Although our St Tropez glamping trip does seem long way off (6 months to be exact!) but I knew this would be perfect for the holiday box. I can just see me chucking this on over my bikini with some cut-offs and flip-flops for the beach. Equally perfect with boyfriends and strappy tan flat sandals.....sold! Thankfully you are able to able to get your hands on some of the outlet offerings online these days as many of the stores have outlet sections on their websites. French Connection being one of them.......I can spare you a picture of me in shorts at the moment!

A closer look....

So the holiday box is underway!

Onto some other purchases.....I promised an update on the New Look dresses. Happy to report hey haven't disappointed.

Urban Outfitters shoes, check out these doppelgangers from New Look

I adore this dress.....love the 1940's feel of it. My only gripe is that I've ordered another as I'd have liked a bit more of the pattern near my face (gosh I sound like my mum!). As it's quite high at the neck I'm hoping that a bit of floral next the face will be a tad more flattering. It's all in the detail isn't it?! Fingers crossed that I get one with the pattern placed like this.......

The style also comes in other colours and patterns and I think it's bargain at £29.99!

It looks beautiful in khaki....perfect for occasionwear. It would look fab with some nude coloured accessories.

And lastly, just in plain red.

The denim dress was a no-brainer too! I would have worn this already.....had it not been for the fact that it is just too cold for it at the moment. However you will see me wearing it like this in the coming weeks.

Excuse the pasty legs here but you get the gist of how I'll be wearing this come Spring/Summer.

That concludes my trying-on session. It always helps to see stuff on doesn't it?!

I promised a post on dressier evening options....that will be coming soon. We are off for some R&R in half term and so I will actually get the opportunity to dress up for dinner for a few nights so hoping to get some photos then.

That is all for now though....be back again soon.
