putting some proper dress research in!

Following on from my last post about some gorgeous dresses from Warehouse with 25% off (code DRESS25 if you are purchasing online) I went in search to have a big trying on session! After being slightly disappointed with the selection in my local Outfit store, I took myself off to the House of Fraser concession in Bristol where I would have fared a lot better had that been my first port of call. I think I'd better stop with the waffling and share the results......be warned, it's a picture heavy post!
Can only say that I think this is bl**dy gorgeous! It's a gorgeous crisp fabric that holds the shape of the dress so well....amazing value too at £33.75 with the 25% off discount.

The other dress I tried on at House of Fraser (yipee, the concession there was also doing the 25% off!) was this fab festival/boho/peasant style linen tunic. Again, I love this, it would be perfect for our holiday in France in August. Just beautiful on! *NB Sadly since I starting writing this post I've discovered that the discount shouldn't have been applied to this one* But I reckon it's still worth £59 so I left it in the post anyway.

There wasn't a lot of stock in my local Outfit store and to be honest the fitting rooms are vile and so not the most inspiring place to shop but I managed to find a few of the styles but the pics don't really do them justice!

First up is this gorgeous stripe style. This got a lot of love on Instagram yesterday....I'm torn between the stripe and the floral pattern in the same shape. The stripe is another dress that's a crisp fabric, making it looking better quality I think. The straps have buttons and are adjustable and it came be changed into a halterneck I'm told.....thanks to the lovey lady on Insta who gave me that tip off! ;0)

The thing that has me dithering between these two is that I am craving a bit of red in my wardrobe and in truth it is about time I broke out of my stripey comfort zone. Although this is exactly the same style, this one is more of a viscose fabric, which I think suits the pattern really well as this one feels (dare I say it....ooh-err!) quite sexy! For me this would be the easier of the two to dress up or down....which is why I'm still cogitating! I don't think I can justify both....there is still a fair bit more to come too! :0/

Whilst we are on the subject of colour....specifically red, I had to try on the shirt dress I featured on the last post. I adore this shade, it's a silky fabric which I think I may find a bit dressy for me for everyday....this one almost makes me wish I had a job to go to!

It would appear that I am well and truly hooked on blue this season (already having purchased two dresses and a jumpsuit recently in my favourite shade!). This dress is another winner if you love the midi/shirt dress.

That concludes my findings in Warehouse, however I did also pop into New Look to try on a few bits from my summer holiday packing post here. I purchased both these pieces.....both brilliant for our next trip to France in the school holidays.

I also had high hopes for this oversize beach shirt but I felt it came up a bit short on me and the splits on the side were a little too revealing so sadly it didn't come home with me.

I'll be popping back into New Look as I discovered some more fab shorts here, here and here which I shall be investigating! ;0)

The holiday shopping did not end there either. Gap have gone into sale and I simply could not resist this! It was less than half price at £23.95 (although as usual the price on the website does not correspond! Grrrrr! It does have 35% off with GREATGAP at the moment!) It also comes in black but I'm thinking white with the tan sandals (like these here) and a straw bag! ;0)

With all the fab choice I am completely befuddled as to what to go for in Warehouse! I'm thinking about what dresses I will really get my wear out of.....I'm torn between being frivolous or trying to stick more to my usual mum uniform! Decisions, decisions!

Now onto the dresses I've been donning these past few days!

You can't beat a hardworking denim dress....even if it is boiling!

It would be good to hear your opinions ladies.....what out of the above do you love or loathe! Have you been tempted by the Warehouse discount or anything else for that matter?

Well, as there is now a Mango discount floating around as their sale is about to start, so they are doing 30% off one item or 40% off multiple purchases using code 6SALE8. I fear I could lose a good few hours perusing their website this evening! ;0)

Be back again soon.

  3. I bought the tunic a few days ago And the discount applied. I really wanted the stripy one but the straps are too long. Got a white off-the shoulder sundress instead which I love. Warehouse have really turned a corner. Can't remember the last time I shopped there and I now have three Warehouse dresses!

    1. Ahh Lesley....thank you so much for letting me know, I've since heard from another lovely reader that she contacted Warehouse and they eventually honoured the discount so it's definitely worth getting on their case. It's so naughty that it doesn't apply automatically as they pitched it as a dress on their own IG feed. Right! Rant over! Aren't Warehouse nailing it with their dresses this summer.....so hard to stop at just one purchase! ;0) xx

  4. I ordered 4 Warehouse dresses yesterday (I live in Australia so can only buy online). I am waiting to see if they fit and then may go back for more once I have the size right! I love the stripe dress and will definitely buy the embroidered tunic - I love it even if the discount doesn't apply. I often find it difficult to find summer dresses that cover enough of my arms (I love the first dress but don't love my arms so that won't work for me) and at least part of my knees but Warehouse has really nailed it at the moment.

  5. Yes you've tempted me again Michelle ;) There are too many lovely things out there FULL STOP! I have made far too many purchases recently! The striped Warehouse dress is on its way to me and I'm about to click the button on a couple of Mango purchases too (a dress and a top!). Love your blog and insta posts as ever. Sue xx

  6. I like the denim shift dress. It's a little bit different and would be great to throw on if you had to run errands. Cute and casual- a nice change from pants.

    1. Thank you Deborah, the denim shift has been so useful! It's been humid but not particularly sunny here so that little dress has been perfect for this type of weather! xx

  7. Loving Warehouse at the moment, have ordered a fab print skirt that I'm waiting on. Still really love the red botanical print dress (think I mentioned it on your IG) I think it looks amazing, and a great change from a stripe. Think you should get it, I'm short so midi dresses are maxis on me and that's not a look I love .... Keep us posted

    1. I always keep a beady eye on what Warehouse have to offer Sally as it was my favourite place to shop when I got my first Saturday job! I definitely leaned more towards the botanical print dress over the stripe as it's just a bit different for me.....I have it in my possession but whether I keep it remains to be seen! I have a wedding this weekend but I bought something a while ago that I'm desperate to wear but I'm taking the Warehouse one in reserve! ;0) xx

  9. Looked in Warehouse at Westfield yesterday. Tried on the striped t-shirt dress which looked rubbish on the hanger, but loved the look on. Bought a 10 rather than my usually 12 to make sure the waist sits on the waist, not drops to the hips (where it adds Unnecessary lbs!) Thanks for the prompt.

    1. Oh I love that dress Claire....I didn't spot it anywhere in my local stores on my travels, that's still one I could really be tempted by! I may wait to see if I can bag it in the sale as I know I would get a lot of wear out of that one xx

  10. My Warehouse dresses (all 6!) arrived and they are fantastic. I got the printed cami dress, the embroidered blue and white one (looks far more expensive on than it is), the pale blue shirt dress and a black embroidered midi dress. I have to return 2 others only because they are the wrong size (I am a 10 in some and a 12 in others) but might buy them in the right size. I am also tempted by the stripe midi as well. I find it hard to find good summer dresses but I am loving the Warehouse ones. Thanks for the post.

    1. Oh that's just brilliant Cas! The embroidered dress is such lovely fabric isn't it....it really does look more expensive than it is! Warehouse have nailed the dresses this year.......you have done so well with what you have picked! Glad to be of service! ;0) xx

  11. I've just stumbled across this page - we have soooo similar taste, I have 2 of the warehouse dresses above! I also love the Mango past season dress and have found one on Ebay - can I ask, is this true to size? i.e. I'm a 10, would I wear a Mango Med?
Thanks in advance - following on Twitter now :-)

    1. Hi Joanne! Hmmm....this is a tricky one! I am a size 10 and I have a small in the printed Mango dress above, however I also have the same dress in black which I bought at a later date and although it's also a small, it's smaller than the printed one. I'd probably go for it in either size as the style of it means you could probably get away it! Sorry....I don't fell like I'm being much help! Let me know how you get on!
I don't tend to use Twitter much but I do post my outfits daily on Instagram if you use it! xx

    2. Thanks Michelle for your speedy response, I guess the fit of the dress lends itself to a smaller size - didn't want it to look like a sack!! I joined Instagram yesterday with the help of my 15 year old nephew :-) I look forward to your updates x
