The Great British Weather Holiday Packing Palaver!

Ahhh....what a dilemma our great British Summertime weather presents us with packing wise! It's certainly a lot more challenging than packing for a holiday when you know you are going to be jetting off to some guaranteed sunshine! I am about to share what I took with me for a week in Devon, it started off so promising, this is a picture of our home for the week at Hillfields Village in Dartmouth.

So here's what I packed, as you can see I was quite optimistic with some tops and shorts that I could mix' n 'match.

Zara cream top, past season
Topshop grey t-shirt, past season
Primark customised red top, past season
Mango black top, past season
Vero Moda denim shorts, ancient
Havaianas slim silver, current here

A few warmer layers were a must! These were all worn over the course of the week.

Zara sweatshirt, ancient
Gap camo sweatshirt, past season
Zara distressed skinnies, past season
Converse, ancient
Havaianas slim silver, current here

I could have done with another jacket choice really but I survived with just these two!

Gap denim jacket, ancient
M&S pac-a-mac, ancient

These Topshop silky joggers were brilliant for travelling there and back in, when comfort was key!

H&M beige sweater, past season. similar here

I took these two dresses but didn't end up wearing either of them.

H&M black maxi dress, past season, similar here
Pull & Bear Breton dress, past season

A few dressier mix' n 'match options, these did all get worn!

Topshop cami, similar here

The sun tops (boob tubes!) were useful for on the beach with shorts, it doesn't feel quite right donning
a bikini in this country to me. I did wear the costume though as we had a hot tub!

Next pack of 2 sun tops, ancient
M&S swimming costume, past season, similar here
Next bikini, current, sold out

The shoes....all worn!

Havaianas slim silver, current here
Converse, ancient

The bags....all used!

The Jacksons London *Smile* bag, here or here
L K Bennett leopard print clutch, past season (present from my lovely friend Sharon)
Jigsaw bag, via eBay

What did I actually wear out of this little lot....here goes!

Topshop t-shirt, past season
Vero Moda shorts, ancient
Havaianas slim silver, current here
Topshop belt, ancient
H&M hat, past season

Mango top, past season
H&M hat, past season

Jack Wills top, current (holiday purchase no.1)
Topshop belt, ancient

H&M sweater, past season, similar here
Vero Moda shorts, ancient
Accessorize panama, ancient, similar here

Topshop cami, past season, similar here
Topshop belt, ancient
The Jacksons London bag, here or here

Zara jeans, past season

Zara distressed skinnies, past season
L K Bennett leopard print clutch, past season (present from my lovely friend Sharon)

From this little holiday-wear diary I am concluding that I did wear most of what I packed. The dresses didn't get a look in, as the reality of holidays in this country call for much more casual attire for me. I wore jeans on both of my evenings out. The sweater and sweatshirts were must-haves for chilly mornings and evenings! What was I missing....nothing really, I easily managed with exactly what I took though I could have managed with less if truth be told! I did purchase and wear a Jack Wills Breton top.....I can't resist a little treat whilst I'm on my hols! I also snagged this little top from Sainsbury's which I tried on a while ago but in the wrong size. Luckily I found it in the Dartmouth branch where they had plenty of sizes left the fact that it was down to £9 in the sale meant it was a no-brainer as it adds a much needed splash of colour to my wardrobe!

Sainbury's Tu top, currently instore in the sale
Topshop Jamie jeans, similar here

I would love to hear what everyone else takes with them when they holiday in the British Isles......any tips you care to share would be greatly received as we will be paying Hillfields Village another visit before the year is out!

Love the Jacksons tote. Seems to be more availability on the French site. Is yours a large tote and is I t black?

    1. The Jackson's bag is my favourite thing at the mo....use it every day! It's a fair bit cheaper on the French site and I can honestly say the Yodel delivery service was impeccable....received in just 3 or 4 days!! The *Smile* is black and mine is large....perfect for carrying all my stuff! Hope this helps! :0) x

  3. It's so hard deciding what to take when holidaying in the UK isn't it Michelle, especially when the weather is so up & down.
Love your 'smile' bag & Sainsburys bargain & hope you had a fab holiday.

    1. You wouldn't think it would be so hard when we are supposed to be in the height of Summer would you Jane?! We made the best of it though! Glad to be home and have my full wardrobe at my disposal! xx

  4. It's a fabulous selection and very well co-ordinated and interchangeable. I have to say, I do love your black cami/culotte outfit with the Smile bag - hubs is a lucky man having you! And I loved seeing the photo of him on Instagram!

And this weather is a mare isn't it? I'm starting to get cabin fever and have shuffled off in the direction of a jumper today as it's that bad. Huff.

    1. It actually went better than I anticipated Sue! The H&M sweater was a life saver....had to take place of the jacket I was down! I loved it layered over the New Look top with the shorts and it was great to sling around my shoulders as it's so lightweight!
The cami and culottes look was my hands down favourite outfit of the trip...I felt cool and glam for once! As for the hub, boy is he shy! I posted that pic without his knowledge but won his approval as it's such a lovely pic!
Fingers crossed that the forecast is right and things are set to improve, I am struggling to decide what to wear in this currently cold situation so I'm *huffing* with you! xx

    1. Thanks Sue! I couldn't take as much as I would have liked Sue as I was sharing the case with daughter who was likely to change half a dozen times a day....luckily there was a washing machine there!! I managed with what I had though, one day I will get this packing malarkey off to a t!! xx

  6. Looking at what you actually wore, it would appear you had ok-ish weather. Or are you just hard lol? Fab outfits, you packed to perfection. I really struggle with this climate when packing. It's so difficult! x

    1. The weather was ok to be fair Donna, I did brave shorts even when it was a bit iffy to be fair! It's easier to layer up and start stripping off if the sun comes out to play. It was a hard one to pack for and I'd take a little less clothing next time......throw up some room for more shoes! ;0) xx

  7. I do find packing for a holiday here so tricky....But at least you don't have to deal with luggage allowance, and can just throw it all in the car! It looks like a lovely place you stayed in, and how fab to have a hot tub too? Sounds as if you had you packing pretty much spot on Michelle, and love that little Sainsbury's bargain too...I do love a supermarket find!!

    1. It's a nightmare packing for the UK Isn't it?! I weather watched the whole week previously looking for clues as to what to take! I think I got it ok in the end....shame that by the time I got my hands on the Sainsbury's top the weather had taken a turn for the worse and I didn't get to wear it while I was away! xx

    1. Honestly this darn weather Avril!! It's been a pants summer, though I'm hopeful for anyone else holidaying in this country, surely we must be due a couple of nice weeks before the kids go back to school? Holiday packing is so hard, I love seeing what other ladies pack, it always gives me ideas I reckon that is how I got so lucky and many things I wouldn't have put together ended up working very well! xx

  12. Lordy I am SO with you on the not wearing a bikini in this country. Not sure why but it's never *quite* warm enough.. ok so maybe we get 5 days a year when it is, but they never coincide with my trips to the beach! I have treated myself to a total old lady M&S ruched number. I have to say it's more than flattering. Even the 10yr old said - wow mummy, you look amazing... (this is praise indeed from her!)

Looks like you had a fab holiday - I've packed some dresses - I'm so not going to need them, am I?! xx

    1. Lol Kat! I live in fear of bumping into someone I know whilst sporting a bikini in the UK, so best to keep the mum-tum under wraps!! The M&S cossie's are super flattering, I actually feel really glam in mine! They should come with a health warning though, quite traumatic getting it off and on when you need to use the loo....especially if you should get lucky and the weather Gods shine on you!

We did had a fab time....hope you do too, I shall keep my fingers crossed for some sunshine for you!! Take the dresses....you never know!! xx
