Replacements

If you follow me on Instagram, to the very eagle-eyed readers it may look as though a couple of new pairs of shoes have found their way in my wardrobe. Thought I'd best explain this is all down to my one item in, one item out ethic at the moment. I ended up with these Topshop Fig sandals, only because I sadly had to return the London Rebel tan flip-flops that I shared here because they weren't a good fit (the H&M sandals from the same post have also gone to a new home, as I just didn't love them enough!). Such a shame as really liked the style, but the Figs are gorgeous and they filled the flat tan sandal hole nicely. I love the style so much I am very tempted to purchase them in black too......excuse me while I dash of to see what other sandals I have that I can purge!

I find tan sandals so useful in the Summer which is obviously how I had managed to notch up 7 pairs with all different height heels (hanging my head in shame here!). After my wardrobe cull I left myself with 3, the high Kurt Geiger shoe-boots I bought recently, a flat F&F from Tesco's which are a couple of years old now and these Topshop Nano's which I've had for 2 years but I'd only worn thrice as I recall.

I was very attached to the Nano's, again I love the style of them but in reality the are just a tad too high for me for daytime wear which meant I kept passing them over for something else. So I eBayed them to purchase the Topshop Hanoi's which have already proved to be an excellent replacement! They have a whiff of the Swedish Hasbeen's about them for a fraction of the price £28, which is all I want to spend for a nod to the 70's vibe. They are brilliant with my flares and denim skirts. Job-done for less than 30 quid....though if I really love them I think it would be worth splashing out on the real deal!

Right so after doing the shoe reccie I mentioned a bit further up, I did a little tot up of what I have actually parted company with this past week! So far 12 items of footwear consisting of 8 pairs of sandals (including the returned pair and the eBayed ones, another 4 pairs currently on eBay), 3 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of trainers. I've also removed another 5 pieces of clothing (mostly going to my sister again, but also eBaying a couple of bits) as well as 1 bag and 1 accessory. My aim this month is not to spend any of mine or my husbands hard earned cash on clothes, shoes, bags, I'm going to only spend funds that I have earnt through re-cycling stuff on eBay and the like. How do you like my justification? Apart from the Topshop Fig in black there really isn't anything else on my wish list so it looks as though it's going to be a very good start to me cutting back on buying and not ending up with yet more stuff!

Time to share some of the outfits I've been wearing lately....there is much to catch up on! Obviously the new shoes are making lots of appearances but it's also good to see how a lot of my favourite outfits at the moment consist of things that have been a wardrobe for quite a while that I am really enjoying wearing again!

It's been another week of not only purging clothing and shoes but also household goods too! We can almost see the finishing line! I am pretty certain that freeing myself of a lot of stuff is really helping me! I feel pretty happy about it. I've got more time as I spend less time looking for things. I am trying to keep in mind whenever I look at something now 'Do I really love this?' 'Does it really make me happy?' and if it doesn't, well it doesn't really deserve a place in my life. Mmm, getting deep here! Do hope it isn't my midlife crisis kicking in! Anyway, that is all from me at the moment, something to ponder on......

As always I love reading and responding to your comments.

Until next time!

Michelle xx

Wow - I think you look amazing in all your outfits. Perhaps the best you've ever looked since I started following your blog. Perhaps it's the sunshine - or perhaps it's the new purging philosophy but either way, you are killing it.

    1. Blown away by your lovely comment....thank you so much! The sunshine certainly helps....it's good for the soul and a tan always helps enhance your confidence doesn't it? The less is more philosophy is also working it's magic I think! I most certainly feel in a better place for pursuing it! Thank you again Emma xx

  2. Looking as gorgeous as always Michelle. It sounds like you're having a serious clear out, which is always rewarding isn't it & I'm a definite follower of the one in one out principle with clothes.

    1. Thanks my lovely! I am having a momentous clear-out and it feels like there is no end to the rewards at the moment.....long may this continue! I fear it may be harder to part with things now that I've really whittled it down to the stuff I really love though! xx

  4. Great post Michelle. The daughter has the TS Figs and loves them. She has declared them her favourite shoes this season! I'm a bit if a declutterer something that gets me in to so much trouble. One day I decided to get rid of every single fiction book in the house - I mean who reads fiction again. Oh boy, did the hubby and daughter to mad!! Same with clothes, I take it upon myself to declutter their wardrobes....such an interfering old bat I am lol. You're looking even more amazing than normal Michelle - fab outfits x

    1. If I had to go the whole Summer with just one pair of sandals Donna it would be the Figs....I can totally understand why your daughter loves them so much! They go with everything!! Lol to the books....we have got rid of tons, everything from cookery books to fiction and hundreds of sports autobiographies....the DH achilles heel! But they just gathered dust and take up space! Recipes and books can all be accessed online so there is no need to clutter up out lives with tons of this 'stuff'. That said they are not all gone as obviously some are cherished items but we've cleared a lot of it. Thank you for the lovely compliment xx

    1. Wow Ruth! Another really lovely comment, thank you so much! I bet you will get so much wear out of the Figs.....I know I will! ;0) The Mango dress and hat combo has had such a lovely reaction, I am looking forward to getting some more of my Summer dresses out in the next few weeks, I know the Figs are going to be perfect with a lot of them! xx

  7. I can't pick - I love all the outfits! You never seem to put a foot wrong. And I love how ruthless you are being - it's inspiring me but I can't do anything properly till next week - I've been tied up tidying up as we have guests to stay (for 1 night only) but the spare bedrooms have been my wardrobes and dumping ground for so long now and it's been a nightmare clearing it out. But I am getting there but once they've gone ... I'm having a proper clear down. It's time (rolls up sleeves).

    1. Aww! Sue....you are too kind, I am truly honoured that you think so as I rate your style right up there with Emmanuelle, Geraldine et al!
I'm still fighting with myself over a few things but I just put them away for a couple of days and then I just get the urge to purge again! I have busied myself with a job I've been dreading which was going through Gracie's clothes, toys and books, so glad to have that out the way. Also done the cupboard under the kitchen sink...yuck! Nearly there now though which is just as well as I have another painting project that I am looking forward to embarking on. Good luck with your un-stuffocating xx

    1. Thank you lovely! I've been taking a lot of inspiration from you Lynne as I've been watching your almighty wardrobe cull too! Doesn't it make life easier to just be able to put your hands on the stuff you love rather than sifting through trying to find those elusive items you are trying to put your hands on?! xx

  9. Wow, you have done well with your clearout! My sister just bought the Figs, and although I swore the lace up trend was not for me, I'm really tempted by a pair now. I'm trying not to give in to that urge though! You look great in those a-line denim mini's, that's another item I need to resist! xx

  14. Great post Michelle!
Love your outfits. Some great classics with their contemporary edge. You could give the French Vogue editors a run for their money!! Onwards and upwards to the land of capsule wardrobes. I'm right with you, though its a struggle when my eyes are bigger than my wardrobe. Especially during summer sale season. Thanks for the inspiration and for being my showcase on what's hot on the lovely Brit High street. I miss it so badly. Loving this blogging movement for buying less and wearing more. Feel like we are defintely on the right road! Flic xx
