1 February 2015

Hanging my head in purchase shame.

I thought I had had my fill of January purchases.....that was until I met Edie.

I picked up this lovely Whistles top in the House of Fraser concession in their Bristol store, but I quickly put it back again after dismissing it for being too dressy for me ( no social life to speak of here!). However I was drawn back to it  as it was such a fab bargain at £30, that was the moment when my Mum put her oar in! I told her I loved it and she agreed it was gorgeous but I had my sensible head on and wailed 'but when will I wear it?' The response was 'you could wear it anytime, I see you wearing it with your ripped up jeans and trainers!' Doesn't she know me well.....now why didn't I think of that?! So home with me it came :0)
Just a couple of days later I came across this on Pinterest.

Mother was spot on wasn't she.

So I had a little try on, putting my own slant on things of course!

Whistles Edie top (sold out online, this is similar from Whistles)
H&M faux leather leggings (current, here)
Converse Hi-Tops (here)

Now would be a good time to share another purchase with you...eek! I've had a very bad January! I finally succumbed to the Aldo Bugiano boots.....I've seen on lots of my blogging buddies, but laying the blame firmly at the door of the lovely Becky at Re:Style thanks to her post reminding me of them here!

Whistles Edie top (sold out online, this is similar from Whistles)
Zara jeans (old, similar here)
Aldo Bugiano boots (current, only a couple of sizes left here)

The boots!

Moving swiftly on.....I'd like to say my purchases ended there......but they didn't! It would seem that khaki is going to be THE colour this spring.....it has been featured on a few of my favourite blogs this week (School Run Style, I won't wear sludge brown and Dorothy Camper) so whilst hot-footing it through Primarni the other day this little number literally stopped me in my tracks!

This may not be a good purchase idea if you spend a lot of time around grubby little hands as you only have to look at it to mark the darn thing. You will also need to love the lived-in creasey look too as no amount of pressing will ever make this look perfect. I'm prepared to put up with all that as it only set me back by 14 of my GBP's and it's such a great nod to the khaki trend this season! It has pockets at the hip on the front like a jacket but after a another try-on sesh I think it looks good tucked in or worn longer to show off the pockets.

Thank goodness January is out the way and it's February is all I can say! I would love to promise a spending ban for this short month but alas it is bound not happen with all the new season trends coming to light! I aim to try out the jean of the moment next, the flare.....stay tuned to see how I fare! Thankfully no purchase necessary as I already have a pair! Phew!

  1. I wish you lot would stop posting those boots. I love them/want them/ need them. The khaki shirt is as good as you said, it look fab Michelle and thanks for the mention. Brilliant outfits and have to say your faux leather leggings look so much better than mine. I should have sized down doh! x

    1. I didn't expect to love the boots as much as I do! I tend to steer clear of anything that's too embellished or with lots of hardware as I am pretty fanatical about mixing metals but these boots seem to be the exception to the rule as they aren't too blingy! If I get as much wear out of them as my Converse and Stan's I'll be very happy!
Although it's quite a dressy top I do think the Edie top will be so versatile....the day before I bought it I did moan to the hubby about not having a top to wear out to the pub, that problem has now been sorted! xx

  4. Michelle that's so funny! I'll accept the blame if you'll let me steal your outfit with the leopard coat - I love it!! Actually, I'm going to pass the blame on to Frances at School Run Style. It was after I saw the Bugiano's on her that I knew I had to have them! Love the new top, and I reckon that khaki shirt would be amazing tucked into flares with your Stans xx

    1. You got the boots too! Steal away the leopard print coat outfit. I look forward to see how you style the boots.....always on the look out for inspiration. Great idea with the shirt, flares and Stan's....I shall be giving that a go! Thank you xx

  5. Well those boots have slotted seamlessly in to your wardrobe haven't they? I'm holding fire on the boots, I don't have enough feet to get through the pairs I have in my wardrobe. And your mum is so in the know - she has your number doesn't she and if your mum can't be your enabler - who can? It looks fab and it's a brilliant buy! And the shirt ... I gave one away last year but in my defence ... it was way too big and too long. I shall just have to look for another methinks!

    1. The boots have fitted right in Sue and they came along just at the right time as even I'm getting bored of seeing myself in the Converse Hi-Tops! I eBayed a couple of pair of boots so that is an area that is lacking in my wardrobe and I don't feel so guilty about purchasing more shoes!
I can always trust my Mum to give me an honest opinion when it comes to clothes, it's turns out that she also knows what will slot right in my wardrobe perfectly and where I have a gap for a top that I can dress down for daywear but is a great evening staple for those odd nights out where you could do with something simple that can be dressed up! We are going away for a weekend soon and she has already planned my outfit for dinner in the hotel.....I think I best get her to do all my packing!! So pleased with the Primark shirt, it's practically exactly the same as my J Crew denim shirt so that's another brilliant alternative to wear with the leather pencil skirt.....if I ever get the opportunity to wear that again! There is so much khaki around it should be easy to find a replacement for the one that got away! xx

  13. I love love love those boots. The hardware adds something but not too much. If I didn't already have an oversupply of ankle boots they would be in my online basket. Can't help but notice you've bought into the khaki trend with the grungy TS jumper. I wore mine yesterday with my leather leggings I love the length of it. It gives good rear coverage which is vital for me.
The whistles top was such a bargain how could you have even thought for one minute that you should leave it on the rail. Your mum was so right.

    1. Thank you! I think had there been anymore buckles or studs I would have shied away from the boots but they are quite subtle and as I am bored of seeing myself in my Cons as much as I love them, a change is as good as a rest! Love the the TS jumper....have always loved that knit stitch and the colour is a superb shade for me (I think?!) and I have to agree it is a great length for hiding a multitude of sins....the excess of the Christmas ones still hanging around at the moment!
I'm so glad my mum was thinking straight on that shopping trip....not sure what was going on with my brain cells that day! Luckily I trust my Mum's judgement 100%! She did me such a great favour by insisting I buy it! xx

Can only imagine how ridiculous they'd look on me. And that top is gorgeous. I got one quite similar in Cos before Xmas and just love it x

    1. Lol....where will it all end Helen?! The boots would sooo not look ridiculous on you!! They are pretty subtle....I can't imagine anyone who would not be able to get away with them!! I wish there was a COS near here.....but then again I doubt my credit card would be too happy about it!! xx
