Rock Goddess chic!

Whilst perusing Mail online last week I stumbled across this fab ensemble on Chrissie Hynde at the NME awards. Chrissie would not be a usual source of inspiration for me but I adore this outfit! I am hoping to look this cool when I reach 63! Can you believe she is 63?!

A look that could easily be sourced from the High Street!

You might be interested to know that Chrissie was featured in the Guardian's 50 best dressed over 50's in 2013, see here. There are so many great sources of inspiration out there for the more mature lady....and gentlemen! So, are you going to grow old gracefully......or disgracefully! ;0)

A Spring/Summer wishlist of sorts!

I say of sorts as it's not so much of a wishlist as more a list of what I've already bought ready for Spring! Having been inspired by both of these looks on Pinterest I've been on the hunt for a beige trench/duster coat.

These are both easy ensembles to replicate as the rest of the outfits are made up of wardrobe staples such as white or denim shirt, a classic black crew neck sweater and black jeans or trousers! Just this one purchase will bring a whole load of new outfits together in my wardrobe! This is the coat I eventually plumped for from Topshop.

Moving on swiftly to my next purchase! I didn't even think about teaming up these two pieces together but I think they so just happen to go brilliantly with each other. In a bid to get myself out of an almighty jeans rut I have been look at some skirt options. Yep....you read that right....a skirt! I am preparing to immerse myself in all things 70's this Summer and so I've been trying to source a denim a-line skirt. The first one I found was this one which is EDC by Esprit which I found on Zalando.

However, I would have to say I wasn't 100% happy with the quality of this one for £39. when the lovely Sue told me about this little number from Jack Wills. I waited patiently for it to arrive on their website, then snapped it up when it appeared last Saturday! For the same price it is a lot, lot better so grab it while you can if you are after one of these as they were literally the only two skirts in this style I could find anywhere in my size. I would point out here that both of these brands came up small and I ordered a 10 and 12 and needed the size 12.

These 2 purchases were just begging to be worn together and I couldn't wait to wear an outfit that whispered Spring.....not saying that too loud or else we will be back to zero degrees by the end of the week!

I have to point out here that I have cleaned the mirror since I took these photos!

I did also nip back to Zara to purchase the Missoni-esque cardy and I've enjoyed playing around with it after being inspired by Sarah over at 'What if I wore it the first time' and trying it on with a round-toed tan suede pair of Oasis boots I uncovered from the depths of my wardrobe that go perfectly with the flares! These boots are the perfect height with the flares and the colour is spot on with the colours in the cardy.

And finally, this has just *fallen* in to my virtual shopping basket! Anyone for cricket?! Love this Uniqlo sweater. Perfect with some boyfriend jeans and my Stans!

Quite a random selection of stuff but all the purchases will enhance what I already have....I haven't gone out on a limb anywhere. Maybe there is no need to have a plan for the season ahead, I may just have to go with the flow, thankfully these pieces should see me through these transitional Spring months nicely. Anyone got a proper Spring/Summer wishlist going?!

Finishing up with my outfits from the beginning of the week. We had a fab start to the half term on our little trip down to Devon, the weather was just glorious, though still chilly. The first couple of photos are some of the outfits from my previous packing planning post! I wanted to bring this mirror home with me as it's made me look a foot taller and slimmer!

For those of you lovely readers that also follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I was lucky enough to be the winner of the Topshop/Wardrobe Icons competition. Whoop whoop! I've won a pair of jeans of my choice and a personal shopping appointment where I can spend up to £300! I'm still pinching myself! Obviously I will be sharing my haul with you. That should sort me out for the rest of the season! ;0)

As always I love reading and responding to your comments.

I will be back shortly with unlikely celebrity style steal.

A couple of days away!

We are off for a couple of relaxing days away in this lovely part of the world, Devon.

After seeing Donna's fab post here about packing for a mini break, I thought I'd share with you what I'm taking clothes-wise for our little trip!

Here's the sum total! We are right on a beach so wellies and a sensible coat are a must. I aim to just lounge, relax and indulge in a few treatments while the hubby keeps the little 'un entertained in the indoor pool. I've tried to keep the amount of stuff to a minimum and so it's all black and grey!

Here's my travelling outfit consisting of a chunky knit, harems and my trusty Stan's

Feeling the 70's lurve!

I went on a jeans mission yesterday.....obviously I got sidetracked a bit! I found myself in Zara who have some fab pieces with that 70's flavour! Now first up is the item I am completely kicking myself for not buying......why the hell did I leave behind?! Will I never learn?

Here's me donning it in the fitting room....I would style this with a cream cami, flares and a wooden-heeled platform sandals with oodles of gold chains! For me it has a touch of Missoni about it! I will be going back for it!

I found this cardigan online and I think this is pretty spectacular too, a whiff of Joseph's technicolour dream coat but gorgeous all the same!

I also took this little number into the fitting room and loved....it would look so cool with a baby kick flare and a flat leather thong sandal! Also talking myself into this one as I type!

I didn't spy this one instore, I have a feeling the shape of it may not translate so well on a hanger and that I somehow missed it! But I love this colour combo and I feel an order coming on for this one.....be afraid credit card....very afraid!

And another! I just love the embroidery on this one, how many boho tops can I justify to the husband though?!

Completely off on a tangent now as when I whizzed past House of Fraser on the way back to my car I spotted this Mango bag in the window! Wouldn't it finish of my look of the first cardy and flares perfectly?!

That reminded me of this little beauty I found on the Jigsaw website the other day that I feel compelled to share! This has a whiff of that 70's favourite.....the saddle bag! I'm always a sucker for a tassel too!

Right, as you may recall the reason for my sprint into town was to try on jeans. Specifically the River Island Alice flares I wrote about in my last post. Typically they do not seem to have hit my local store yet but they did have another flare called Brooke, which I gave a go. They were good. Excellent fit (size 10 was tried), the length would be perfect with a mid-heeled boot or shoe and they held everything in perfectly, just enough give to be super comfy. At £42 I thought they would be a good buy for anyone looking to find a good pair of flares. These are very similar to my Zara ones so no purchase was made.

Side view first

Front on.

Now is the time to fess up to what I did purchase on my travels. I have been on the hunt for a pair of ripped blue skinnies for a while, I came across these from Topshop but read the reviews which put me off as a few of the comments mentioned the knees had gone very quickly and that they had a tendency to bag. Anyway, the lovely Annmarie tried them on here on her blog and the fit looked fab on her and I noticed the reviews were a bit more mixed by then. So off I took myself to Topshop to try them. I loved the distressing and the fit was excellent but the reviews were taunting me as the jeans were very tight on the legs and knew the knees would go sooner rather than later so I left them behind. However, after perusing one of my favourite places for inspiration, Avenue 57 on Facebook (join in the fun by following this link), I came across these Zara jeans on the lovely Olive (thanks to Olive for letting me use her photo). I had the feeling these would fit my ripped jeans yearning perfectly.

And they have! Yay!

River Island pea coat (A/W 2013 via ASOS, similar here)
Gap sweater (Sale 2014 here)
Zara Jeans (current here)
Adidas Stan Smith's (via eBay, buy here)
Jigsaw bag (via eBay)

So onto my outfits from the last couple of days where I have been very bundled up to combat the cold, so apart from coats jeans and shoes there isn't much to see! Come on Spring....hurry up!

Topshop parka (A/W 2013, similar here)
Gap Skinny leggings (old, similar here)

Gap Always Skinny jeans (old, similar here)

There have been many layers on underneath my coats these past few days, my Damart fur gilet has been my saviour whilst the temps have hovered around freezing! Thankfully the forecast says we can expect things to nudge up a few degrees in time for the weekend! Bring it on!

Excuse the long rambling rather random post from me! :0)

Anyway back to the order of the day....anyone else ready for the 70's revival yet? Have you got your eye on any of the other 70's lead trends?

As always I love reading and responding to your comments.

Until next time

I am a Zoe-bot!

My flare inspiration is coming from one of my style icons, stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe. This illustration from her book Style A to Zoe has stuck in my head as a great way to wear the flare!

Rachel Zoe wears the 70's style glamour so well, there are lots of fabulous street-style images of her on Pinterest which inspired me to have a little trying on sesh! These are just of few of my favourite looks from the Zoe!

So first up, after the original illustration inspiration in the first pic, I went with a fur gilet look! More than a touch of the 70's Huggy Bear look....lol!

Next up is an outfit I wore out for a quick early evening supper to the local curry house....any excuse to dress up a bit, especially incorporating my new Muubaa biker jacket, a Forever 21 tee and M&S Boots. I love the way that Rachel Zoe wears her flares with a short fitted jacket, which was what inspired this look. Excuse the slightly startled expression here!

Lastly, based on her military look above where she just so happens to be sporting another one of this season's big trends, I tried them on with my new Primark khaki shirt and Aldo boots.

I have had my flares for years but they were about 2" too long and so I had only worn them once with sky-scraper platform wedges in the Summer! I dug them out and had them taken up.....happy days as it meant no new purchase for this trend! :0) Here's a little round-up of the flares I've found on the High Street though! Starting with Zara where mine originally came from!

I literally just saw these River Island flares this morning when I flicked through the Sunday Mail You magazine, love the dark wash of these so I will am taking myself off to River Island to try these asap! I shall report back on my findings! ;0)

Finally a couple of outfit shots where I've still been experimenting with the #fromwhereIstand pose instead of the usual mirror selfie!
