My party pieces!

Really this should read my *going out garments* but it wasn't quite so catchy as my party pieces! The fact is that there are no parties on the horizon for me over the festive period! Long gone are the days of a big office Christmas bash that requires a party dress and a week's worth of lady maintenance and preparation! These days the highlights of my Christmas calendar are a meal straight from work and a neighbours drinks party in between Christmas and New year! I am so rock'n'roll....not! So as much as I'd love to splash out on a fab new outfit I am instead looking to update my evening wear wardrobe with a couple of pieces that compliment a few purchases I have already made and that I can wear all year round! First up I felt I needed a tux! I have an ancient Jaeger one but it is quite boxy and I fancied something longer and fitted.....cue a trip to H&M where I picked up this beauty for just £24.99! I found it came up small and I've ended up with a size 14!

I'm not a Christmas sweater wearing type of girl but I am not adverse to a little bit of something sparkly so I plumped for this fab t-shirt also from H&M, another excellent bargain at £7.99!

I bought these H&M leather look leggings a while back and they have already earned their pay-per-wear! Again excellent value at £14.99

Right at the start of the season I purchased a fab little lacey pointy pump from H&M and they completed this look perfectly!

Here is the ensemble which I wore for a Birthday dinner with my hubby on Wednesday! A very un-classy ladies room shot I'm afraid!

I thought the t-shirt would be a great alternative to my denim shirt to wear with my faux leather skirt so I had a little try on!

I bought faux leather skirt from Next last year but they have done something similar again this year

Quite frankly if I hadn't bought the M&S caged sandals earlier in the year I would definitely be heading straight to get these amazing sandals from Next but I just cannot justify another pair of sandals as have only worn the M&S ones a couple of times!

I got the new H&M tux out again today......I may have been a tad overdressed for Sunday lunch at the pub but as I said I don't get out that much so I'm grabbing every opportunity to wear it! With another pair of shoes I picked up this week!

  2. Gorgeous outfits as always, Michelle. I love the last outfit with the grey jumper - perfect! You're getting your wear from your hi tops, aren't you? They look fab with every outfit.

My work do is a dinner dance at a local hotel (it sounds much grander than it is!). Last year I bought a dress but this year, I've bought some brown coated skinny jeggings which I'm wearing with a brown sequin top and a
Leopard print clutch and shoes. Nothing too exciting but only the trousers are new so not bad I think!

My festivities sound similar to yours. Lots of seeing family, friends over for dinner between Christmas and New Year and lots of chilling out time with my loved ones. Bliss!

    1. Thanks Lynne! I think the Zara jumper will be one of my top 5 purchases for this season...I love it! The Converse will be on that list too....they go with everything!!
Sadly my days of going to posh Christmas do's seem well and truly over so the chances to don a lovely evening dress are few and far between!! Shame as I love to dress up as much as the next lady!! Love the sound of your outfit though....look forward to seeing that!!
I do look forward to spending lots of lovely quality time with the family over Christmas, I can't wait for that xx

  4. Fabulous Michelle. Love your new outfit. Yep I've got my order in for the shoes. Actually they're waiting for me to collect them at the shop when I get around to it. Bloomin heck if you needed a 14 in the tux, I'd need a 20. They must be tiny x

    1. Thank you Donna, at least I can dress this bits down to get the wear out of them all! Can't speak highly enough of the shoes....they look the business! If the tux had a fastening it would only just fit....H&M sizing is ridiculously random, unless I was just extremely unlucky and picked up a randomly, wrongly sized garment!! xx

  5. Ooh - same here - I'm having an order in takeaway Christmas meal at some friends - it's all glamour round my parts! Hence why I can't justify new fancy frocks which I just won't get the wear out of. Like you, I like my pieces to be quite understated but workable for day or night - we just up the accessories and we're done. I love all the outfits but my favourite has to be the grey Zara jumper and patchwork jeans. It's simple but it works so well!

    1. I like the sound of your Christmas do Sue....that is so appealing, not having to leave the house, having a few bevvies around the fire enjoying a takeaway.....bliss! The way to go is definitely keeping it simple but upping the ante with some great accessories! The Zara jumper is a delight....that is definitely my favourite outfit of the week!

  6. How much do I wish I'd pulled my finger out and bought that t-shirt now?! Looks amazing with the skirt! Love your camel coat too, and (obvs) the grey jumper :-)
The husband and I have our Christmas do coming up - a trip to the football next Saturday followed by a meal in Manchester. What does one wear to the match that is also suitable for a posh restaurant? Lord alone knows, I'll be spending all week figuring that one out!! I also have a night out with some girlfriends planned. It's only local, but as it's one of the only opportunities I'll have to get dressed up I'll probably be going for it and wearing something wildly unsuitable!

    1. The t-shirt was such a no-brainer but I dithered over it too....luckily only for 24 hours though as I shot back into town to pick one up the following day!! Phew, so glad I did!! Football is such a tricky thing to dress for especially if you plan on doing something nice after too! But I look forward to seeing what you go for as I am off to a footy game in January and apart from the need to wear something warm, I haven't a clue what to wear!! Gosh....that has certainly given me something to think about!! Yikes!! xx

  7. Funny I wore something very similar to a dear friend's 50th party last week. I felt just right in it. You look amazing in the leather skirt and t shirt combo. And thanks for the tip re the new look shoes as I didn't buy them when they were first in stock and then regretted it ever since.

    1. Go, go, go!! Get those New Look shoes before they are all gone again!! Great minds with the party outfit, it's just the right mix of dressy without being over the top and the slightly edgier evening look, well....I just felt more comfortable in that, if that makes sense?! Just need an excuse to whip that leather look skirt out again sometime soon!! xx

  8. Same here Michelle, no fancy Xmas party for me either, we've got friends coming round on Xmas eve for drinks (lash!) so I intend to dress up a little. I've ordered the H&M trousers the other day so I'm hoping to look as fab as you do in yours, im sure my teenage daughter will let me know! I'm loving your style at the moment and could seriously wear all your outfits here! Xx

    1. What are we like Sue....already to party and nowhere to go! I like the sound of the Christmas Eve lash up! I might be more inclined to wear a for a dress for that kind of do as you know you will be somewhere warm where you can kick off your shoes if you want to have a dance ;0). Am I sure you will look fabulous in the H&M trews....I bet your daughter will think you do too! xx

  9. Hi Michelle, was it your, or the Hub's birthday dinner on wed? Whichever happy b.day! Love your outfit for it, It's so funny we had a party to go to at the weekend, and I planned to get pretty dressed up, but when it came to the evening I just felt better dressed down, and virtually unknowingly copied your look tux, leather look trousers and a printed tee! As you say to go full on dressed up, a lot of work to be done, and this is just such a cool look that doesn't require huge maintenance to get ready, but still looks really good, for a night out! Love the grey Zara sweater outfit, have that one in my keeps too! Hey, If we had a blog gal's Xmas party I bet we would all turn up in the same thing!! Helen xx

    1. It was the Hub's birthday on Wednesday! The birthday's have hit me hard this week as it was also my dad's birthday on Wednesday and my mum's on Friday....ouch!! We had a lovely family get-together again yesterday, only a pub lunch but another nice excuse to dress up a bit! I am all about the dressed down, not trying too hard kind-of evening look at the mo! At the end of the day it's all about comfort and a pair of skinnies, a nice jacket and t-shirt, well you can't go wrong!! As you say this is the perfect look for a mum on the run with no time for any lengthy prep!! Lol, to the blog gal's Christmas party!! Actually that sounds like an amazing idea for a do! ;0) xx

Great outfits Michelle! I bought that tee a couple of weeks back - an amazing bargain! I ordered a black sweat with the same design, although the sequins are sewn on flat which somehow isn't quite as pleasing, so it went back. Am dithering over the pleather, look great on you..........am going to try coated black jeans first and see how that goes.
Am also nearly sold on the patchwork jeans, have been hovering over the 'buy' button on those for a good couple of weeks!

    1. Thank you so much! The tee is a goodie!! What a shame about the sweatshirt though! I am wearing my tee tomorrow for my work do with some Zara coated skinnies that I've had for years! I would recommend trying Zara's offerings this year as mine have withstood the test of time! Go for the H&M jeans....I love and I think they will come into their own next Spring too! xx

Thanks for the top tips - never really got into Zara.....find their website somehow super frustrating to navigate and the nearest shop is nearly an hour's trek to Brum. Must steel myself for a trip in the new year sales!
