2 April 2014

Planning ahead.

So the time has come for me to start thinking about holidays! I booked mine a couple of days ago and although it is four months away it's never too early to start getting organised (especially when I consider how much Spring purchases I have already racked up!) The sun has been shining these past few days so it's got me in the holiday spirit and so the search for a few holiday essentials is already on!

Here are just a few bits that have already caught my eye that will be purchased hopefully ready to stash in readiness for August! First thing for me to consider is the beach cover up, I am always thinking what will work easiest to chuck on over my bikini. I love this playsuit by Next and the beauty of it is that it will just pull on up over your swimwear. I love embroderie anglaise....so this looks perfect! I actually think I would wear this out on an evening, bling it up a bit then use it later on in the week over my bikini maximising it's usage!

So next on the radar is this red (looks orange to me??) ASOS strappy cami dress, again perfect just to throw on and a nice splash of colour for me! At just £15 this one won't bust the budget either!

These 2 items will top up the cover ups I already have, I still wear a few pieces that I have had for years but that only come out for holidays so they are still looking good! It's nice to add a couple of newbies into the mix each year to liven things up a bit!

The next item on my radar is a tote, these are great for chucking your suntan lotion and kindle in for going down to the pool, also great for holding your bits and bobs on the evening if your are still toting around things to keep the little ones amused at dinner! They fold up nicely in the suitcase so you can take a couple! Here's a Jack Wills one I bought last year in the sale for £8 after seeing a stylish lady on the beach donning hers!

I love this red one and think will look great with the 2 cover ups I'm after

Pool side footwear coming up now! I have had a pair of gold Havaianas which I have had the past couple of years so this year I am going to invest in a silver pair. Metallics are a great neutral, that tend to go with everything and of course they look great with a tan! Here are the slim fit in gold

and these are the silver ones I am after this year......I've found you can find a better deal if you buy them brand new from eBay or Amazon.

Already pre-prepared with this item! I saw this trilby in Primark a couple of weeks ago and snapped it up as it was only £4 which means I can leave it there rather try and get it home in one piece! The also had a panama shape which I think was the same price so I may get that too!

Then there are the obligatory shades to take! I will be taking my two classic pairs of Raybans! The aviators seem to work better with a hat because of them frame. My frame is gold but at some point before I depart I would like to invest in a silver framed pair!

I'd be lost without my Wayfarers so they will be coming along too!

So, the holiday shop has started with a few daytime basics....I'm sure there will be a few more purchases between now and August! I do like to plan ahead. I like to take the bare minimum so I really think on how I can use things for day and night to keep the old baggage allowance down.....there needs to be a bit of room for the odd holiday purchase after all! Have you started your holiday shopping yet or am I alone in this endeavour??

We have been blessed with some gorgeous sunshine and so I am gradually breaking out a few of my Spring/Summer items! Even managed to sport the Birkenstocks on Saturday for a bit of a mooch around town and of course the new Zatchel bag has made a few appearances too!

Zara jacket (old)
Topshop t-shirt (current)
Zara coated chinos (current)
Birkenstock Arizona's via Amazon (current)
Zatchels saddle bag (current)

Zara jacket (last year)
Zara t-shirt (current)
Zara jeans (last year)
Kurt Geiger Laurel slip on's (current)

 Primark baseball jacket (current)
H&M Breton (old)
Gap original fit jeans (last year)
Converse (positively ancient!)
Zatchel's bag (current)

Gap outlet mac (current)
Zara sweat top (last year)
Gap Always Skinny jeans (old)

Long may this sunny spell last.....until after the Easter holiday would be lovely!

Wishing everyone a good week!

Until next time :0)

  1. Some perfect additions to the holiday shopping list Michelle. I've also purchased a couple of easy pull on dresses for daywear for our summer holidays & hope to perhaps give them their first outing here too if we get a glorious summer!
Love all your outfits, especially todays.

    1. Isn't it great to get the Summer stuff out and feel a bit of sun on your skin Joanna?! The Birkenstocks didn't feel too over the top for March either....I think had I worn a strappier sandal and I might felt like I was getting ahead of myself footwear wise if that makes sense?! Mind you, pretty much everyone else that I saw that day were still in coats and boots!!
The white Zara jacket is so lovely, grateful to the sun for making an appearance so that I could wear it and don the Raybans! xx

  4. I love your' latest looks. Funnily enough, just last evening, we were discussing the possibility of going away in July. I have been shopping with my SIster - in - Law but it was all about her today. She has just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer so I needed to cheer her up and focus on getting her ready for her holidays in August. We picked up some fabulous things from M&S, Dorothy Perkins and Laura Ashley ( great 'Tods' style driving shoes in Tan ) I can really see you in that Black playsuit. H xx

    1. Aww Helen, so sorry to here about your SIL. What better way to help take her mind off of things than to get her focused on her holiday and most importantly what she is going to wear! I know that would go a long way to cheering me up! They had some amazing stuff in DP....didn't really get a proper look in M&S but I always find some great stuff in Laura Ashley whenever I get in there (dare I say their sales are amazing especially on homeware are excellent....such bargains!!). Sounds like you had a good day! Fingers crossed the playsuit lives up to expectations! xx

  5. At least you are more organised than me on this score! I've long been a fan of delegating clothing on holiday so your playsuit plans are perfect! xx

    1. I try to be organised Sharron and on the whole it works! last year I only came home with one outfit that I hadn't worn and that was only because I bought some stuff in Zara while I was there!! I double up as much as I can....I don't want to take anymore than I have to because of the silly baggage restrictions....it all adds to the cost of the holiday if you go over doesn't it?! I'd rather spend that on shoes...lol! ;0) xx

  6. Laughing that you are holiday buying now and then when August comes you'll holiday buy again - I like your style!!!

I am all in for the strapless playsuit - I may have a few to wear. I LOVE a good cover up too - brilliant for sitting at the beach bar mid afternoon to cool off from the sun!

    1. Well this will make you laugh Fiona! Just got in the loft to go through some of the Summer stuff and the trouble is you forget what you already have!! Oh hello black playsuit....forgot I had you, but you are not embroderie anglaise! I could go on but suffice to say that actually I don't need anything but I still want new stuff......it's nuts isn't it?! See....I absolutely need the dress since you have talked me into getting it as I see myself sitting at the beach bar supping a G&T wearing it! xx

  9. I buy a lot of footwear from amazon. If you know what you're after, it's much cheaper. I do bought two pairs of Havaianas from there and I love them both. My favourite are the rose gold pair I have. I'm off on hols on sat so very excited now! Lynne x

  10. The Next playsuit is gorgeous & you can't go wrong with Havianas for the Summer! Luckily for you there'll be loads more high Summer stuff in the shops before you go away (in fact by August the AW14 stuff will probably be out...there's a thought!!), so you're right to get organised now! As always you look fab in your outfits. x

  11. I was going to say how much I loved the Next playsuit, but I've just seen your answer to Fiona and am still laughing. I'm about to receive my first pair of Havs as my sister bought me a pair when she visited Brazil recently. I think they cost her about €12! Some difference.

  13. The next playsuit is gorgeous, I can really see you in that! I have had my holiday in February, was amazing, but we only found out that we were going a couple of weeks beforehand, so bought nothing new, was all just chucked in, and not how I normally do things, but it was all fine in the end! Will have to see if I can book a few days somewhere just to get some holiday shopping in!

    1. You did good to manage on what you had Abbi! I went shopping with Sian on Weds and we were both shocked at how little holiday/ high summer stuff was out in the shops as she is away over Easter!! Primark were great....they get their swimwear out early and New Look had a good selection but struggled to find much stuff anywhere else!! I'm going to buy a couple of bits now then wait until the summer sales which will have been and gone by the time we go away!! xx

  16. I'm rubbish with my holiday day time outfits. I want to drape myself on a sun lounger by the pool but in reality I'm normally scruffed up on a beach. Love your items and you look fab x

  17. I have visions of wafting around in a gorgeous kaftan but in reality I have to bolt after the little one at times so I need something I can chuck over my had that won't show the suntan lotion marks....not as glamourous as I envision!! xx

  18. Fab little purchases and you can't go wrong with a Primark sunhat/trilby. I have one from a couple of years back and it's still going strong and it only cost £4 as well (from the mens section). And I do so wish I had a holiday planned - so I could get shopping for holiday gear! Any excuse eh?

Anyway, love seeing you with your pictures taken outside - how much are you bribing your little one? And I think I might need some black birks as well. It's never ending is it?

  19. Thanks for the tip off Sue....I never thought to check out the men's department...going to give that a go!!
I dithered so long over the holiday I'm amazed we booked anything at all! Love planning the holiday wardrobe as you can see!!
The little one is not too bad with the photos....tried to get the DH to do it but he is tall and the angle wasn't right!! Love the Birkies....could be tempted by them in other colours too ;0) xx

  20. Get a tripod and set it at the height you want your photo to be taken and get someone to take it then. Supposedly foolproof but I know that my George would still need a stool and that is just dangerous (for my camera).

Says she with a tripod which she uses once a year.

  21. Some great holiday picks here Michelle! I love Havaianas, they are a must! Sadly no hols for us this year but a few weekends away planned instead which will be just as fun! Loving all of your outfits! Ax
