My new 'do'!

So typical! The minute I had had my hair cut and coloured last time (which was in November) I saw a new cut/style that I just knew I had to have! Unbelievable ehh?? Anyway I've hung out until now! I wanted something shorter and fresher....cue a very savage trim this time! Only fair that I share the inspirational style first!

I love long hair and I have for the most part of my adult life worn it long. I did have a bit of a wobbly just before my daughter was born in 2006 and had my long hair cut into a shorter bob thinking it would be less maintenance. However I quickly realised my mistake as at the time I did like my hair to look ever so perfect and would spend ages drying and straightening which was difficult to do with a baby! I couldn't wait for it to grow again so I could just stuff it into a pony tail on my bad hair day! Anyway it's been long and layered for about 5 years now.

About a year ago I rid myself of the blow-drying after reading an article about how French women only use supermarket brand shampoo's, no conditioner and prefer not to have an overly done style. Gosh....the freedom of  the wash & go! I get ready in half the time now! And my hair seems to be in better condition as the use of the straighteners has been limited to just perking up the ends now and again! Anyhow.......I felt my hair needed a bit of oomph! It's quite fine but there is a lot of it and I wanted to lose some of the bulk. So I went for it! Here are the before and after shots!!

So this was the barnet yesterday....covered a few angles here so you can get a feel for the length of it.

And here we have the new 'do' which I think you will agree looks younger and fresher....well it's feels that way!

As you can see I've lost a fair bit of the length along with the bulk. It feels lighter and in much better condition. I am chuffed to pieces with the result and so on that note I would like to say a huge thank you to Sarah Slade......I know she reads this! You're a star Sarah. She is a fellow school run mum. She comes around to mine of an evening, brings her son and daughter who keep my little 'un entertained! We make a night of it as I put pizza's in for the kids and we may have a sneaky glass of wine on occasion! I can't recommend her highly enough as she is great with hair and a lovely person to boot! So there you go!

It's time I start clearing the wardrobe out now that my appearance has had a freshen up.....the wardrobe needs a purge too.....oooh the motivation!

Have just 2 outfits to share from the past couple of days

First up is Saturdays outfit....when I came over all nautical with the stripes and pea coat! Aye-aye captain!

River Island pea coat
Gap stripe top
Zara jeans
New Balance trainers

No photo for Sunday as we had a full-on day at a tobogganing party and dance show rehearsals.....I did spends most of the day in slobs.

Monday's school run outfit

H&M coat
Gap sweater
Gap jeans
Office brogues

Any thoughts on the new hairstyle? Are you planning on a change of image for Spring? Anyone else done their wardrobe clearout yet? Love reading your comments and responding to them!

Be back soon with a couple more sales purchases! Michelle xx

  2. TOTALLY loving the 'do' Michelle, it looks absolutely fab! Funnily enough I have the same picture pinned on one of my boards in Pinterest as I'm in the process of growing my hair a little bit longer & love this style, I've just got to get the hang of curling it so I'll be interested to see how you get on with yours. 1. The curl dropped a little overnight Jane but I went over it with GHD'S this morning!! Will probably do very little to it once it's washed!! Glad you like it....will keep you posted as to how I get on x

  4. Absolutely love it Michelle! This style really suits you....great length & really flattering (& still long enough for you to style it & wear in different ways), but it looks fab curled! My hair has been every length possible (think Victoria Beckham crop to, at it's longest last year, when it was past my shoulders, to what it is now a long bob!). x

    1. As long as I can still get it in a pony tail for those lazy hair days and it's still long enough to look good enough under a hat I am happy Sian! Super pleased with the cut though as it should be really easy to maintain! xx

  5. It looks great Michelle, not that it looked bad before! I'm intrigued to know more about your haircare routine now though! I spend what seems a fortune on shampoo and conditioner but have never found the holy grail and still end up washing, conditioning and blowing drying every day. Would love to know any of your secrets to reclaiming some of that time!!

    1. Thank you Debra!! I use either Morrocan Argan oil.....got it on offer in Superdrug or the V05 stuff in the pink packaging. I only shampoo I don't condition. I use a wide tooth wooden comb on it when it's we, dry it off just to get most of the moisture out then add a bit of mousse and leave I the rest to dry naturally!! Phew....it sounds worse than it is!! Hope that helps xx

    4. Thanks again Michelle. I've been trying to get to every other day but it's minging in between and feels horrible. I think I may be washing too often and over conditioning so your routine sounds very appealing!! I'll let you know how it goes! xx

    5. I stopped using conditioner because I felt I was losing any volume I may have had after washing......think the conditioner just weighed it down if that makes sense! x

  7. Looks gorgeous Michelle! I love it and I'm ready for the chop as well. I always get a bit like this after Christmas after I've let mine go for too long. But it's so expensive! I've racked up some hair bills this year and my hubs can't even tell I've had it done. I do think I was seperated at birth from you - hair, shoes, clothes. Where will it all end?

    1. I did hang out having mine done longer than I normally would as I knew I was going every weekend towards the end of January!! I normally get my colour and cut done every 10 weeks but because Sarah comes to my house it's much more reasonable than going to salon.
I am seriously starting to think we are telepathic on the hair, clothing and shoe front!! xx

  11. Love it, it's does look more younger and more on trend. That's what mine should look like when it done properly.... he he. I got the chop after N02 was born 16 mths ago and I have never regretted it, rough dry it and alittle go with the tong so much better than the 40mins it use to take me to try and blowdry it! x

  17. Totally love, love, love it Michelle! Not too dissimilar in length to mine, I have to keep getting it chopped, it grows so quickly, as feel I am too old for long hair and do feel it gives your face a bit of a lift xx
