A rest from the budget talk!

No purchases to divulge to today.....just fessin' up to stealing style! Oh to the joy of being able to cobble an outfit together without spending a penny!!

This is something I would never have envisaged putting together....it's double denim for a start, which is a look I've really struggled with! I've just recently fallen in love with layering a shirt and sweater so when I saw this shot of Olivia Palermo, well I thought I'd give it a whirl......and I am pretty pleased the results!! When the husband says 'you look nice' you know you must be onto a good thing!

Simple....yet so chic! Here is my version consisting of H&M sweater and denim shirt, Gap outlet skinny's and New Look pumps

Here I've added H&M coat as the temperatures are certainly dipping!

So what do you think? How have I done? I think I could really smash my challenge if I could throw a few more looks together like this where I have found similar items in my wardrobe! I've had more fun and more of a buzz putting this together than I have acquiring anything new this week!! I love getting inspiration.....it comes from everywhere! Where do you get you inspiration?

    1. What with you mentioning it Jane, stumbling across the pic of OP and seeing the lovely Laura from WIT sporting a lovely grey knit and coat I knew it was time to give this look a whirl! Can't wait to see you styling the double denim x

  2. Your hubs sounds as good with compliments as mine LOL. Few and far between.

But yes, lovely look and isn't it satisfying to not have to spend any extra money to get it? I think half of it for me is the ownership of something albeit brief - my rate of returns is stupendous and then after the initial thrill - I find I don't like it half as much. But pinterest - I need to get on it a little more. I do have a rather stagnant account - must try harder methinks. Well I do have all afternoon - hubs is at a beer festival.

Actually might steal this one this week. Thanks!

    1. Lol Sue! At least if your hubby has been to the beer festival he should be rather jovial and full of compliments! Not sure how to take the word 'nice' from my DH but it's better than nothing! At least he noticed what I was wearing for a change!

I'm 100% with you on the ownership......a lot of the time it's the thrill of the chase and securing the item! Once it's in my possession it doesn't always live up to my expectations and I do end up taking a lot of stuff back. Since starting the challenge I have put a lot more thought into how many things my new purchase will go with what I have and so fingers crossed there will be fewer mistakes and less returning. That's got to be a good thing in my book.....and for the bank statements that run into pages and pages at the mo!

  3. That's a great look ... and I could re-create that too! Thanks :) Like Sue, I need to try harder with Pinterest ... I've only just signed up, so still 'feeling my way' so to speak.

    1. Warning Helen! With Pinterest I found in the first few forays I would get lost for hours trawling through the looks! There is so much great inspiration though, I am totally hooked and the husband is relieved that the previous obsession with eBay is over! Lol! It's free to peruse and if you have some of the basics it is surprising on how many of the looks that you love that you can actually throw together! Happy browsing x

  4. I love this and will have to give it a go too. I get inspiration from ( Obvs ) you and the gals on Avenue 57 plus Pinterest and my regular 'Bloglovin' feeds. I love WIT, same as you, and Kat, of course. When I bought my Camo jeans I just googled them and waited to see what came up. I sometimes look at my clothing ( strewn over the spare bedroom ) and come up with a complete blank! It is only through the internet, and some magazines, that I ever get to wear anything. I am not kidding. Anyway great post, again, and I am now thinking about our next meet up. H xx

  5. Helen......you look so fab in your camo you have me trying to track some down! They shall only be purchased if I can keep within the confines of my budget. You have inspired me and that it what is so fab about blogs, media and Pinterest! I had exactly the same dilemma as you today as I normally have an idea of what I want to wear beforehand but this morning I just opened the wardrobe and I couldn't see for looking! Luckily it's Sunday and that means the supermarket shop for me so only a little effort needed....well that's my excuse!

V.excited at the thought of our next meet......bring it on x

  6. You've been sucked in to Pinterest!! LOL! Hubby was not impressed when my addiction started & then I started blogging!! I think its a wonderful site & I have been back on it recently for inspiration! It is great for shopping your wardrobe or just encouraging you to buy one piece to help you create a look you've seen & liked! Ax

  8. It's a winner - I've done double denim once like this. It's works - great way to get more wear out of your denim shirt AND have an extra layer as the weather gets colder. Love the H&M coat too. You have an amazing eye for gorgeous stuff. Envy. Want to go shopping with you! x
